Children's Nature Institute

A nature walk geared toward the little ones? It may sound unbelievable, but it's true. These nature walks led by trained docents are a great experience for everyone, but especially for children under eight. It's a chance to relax, exercise and learn about the great outdoors. The pace is easy for children and most paths are stroller accessible. Babies and children up to eight years old are welcome with an adult. There is a suggested donation. The walk schedule and routes vary, and reservations are required.

Zanzibar

The area’s premier small-to-midsize room is anotherpurpose-built venue. An image of a turntable even figures into theclub’s branding. It’s a loungy, vibe-y spot with sexyservice and an upscale crowd of Westsiders and Euro-tourists. Theplace is booked Tuesdays through Sundays with critically acclaimed DJnights, including KCRW-FM DJ Jason Bentley’s bossa:nova partieson Fridays, the world-flavored Afro Funke night Thursdays, and Haul &Mason’s mix-and-match extravaganza, Quality, on Saturdays.Zanzibar has been so successful that people line up regardless ofwho’s promoting.

Santa Monica State Beach

Santa Monica State Beach is the closest beach to the Santa Monica Pier and Third Street Promenade . As one can expect, it is well equipped with the usual amenities plus volleyball courts, picnic tables and good swimming and surfing conditions. In addition to attracting the typical beach combing crowd, this spot seems to be a magnet for special events, most notably a semi-annual performance run by the world-famous Cirque du Soleil. Just be advised that summer crowds—especially on weekends, can be monstrous.
