Even though their services are not required as much as they once were only 20 years ago, the libraries in San Francisco have still found a way to attract a new generation of loyal readers and researchers.

The San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) offers any Californian resident the opportunity to access a free SFPL card when they walk through the door. If coming from afar, it only costs a few dollars to subscribe yourself to their wonderful collections of books and Internet-related material.

Giving access to ProQuest, an expensive newspaper and magazine service which gives its users the ability to search, read and print articles dating back five years and beyond.

Being in such an enormous library in San Francisco may intimidate, but the Bernal Heights Library aims to do just the opposite. A smaller library in San Francisco compared to the SFPL, and with a fantastic children’s section, this place has to be seen if entertaining and educating your children is paramount.

They are currently remodelling the centre to improve their services and facilities, but are still functioning as per normal. The added bonus is that there is a small park just behind, so reading can have it perks.

The Internet may have changed the traditional role of what constitutes a library, but the ones in San Francisco have updated themselves and taken advantage of the situation to provide its patrons with the best.
