Industrialization, which began in the mid-19th century, has shaped the city's environment and prosperity, leaving a mark on Toronto’s History and future. By the beginning of 1901, the commercial, industrial, institutional and financial industries had grown substantially and by the end of 1941 saw a growth boom. Toronto's population eventually surpassed Montreal's in 1976 after a long competition in becoming one of the larger cities in Canada. This phenomenon created Toronto as Canada's most important economic and cultural engine.

In 1945, a major mark in Toronto’s history was seen as this is the time when it became one of the largest cities in Canada. Several thousands of immigrants coming in called the city their new home.  By 2001, Toronto had truly grown to become by far the largest city in Canada with a population of over 2.5-million people.Toronto History and future has shaped it to become what it is today, making it one the best places to see and visit.
