Both the Old Town and the National City of San Diego are sitting beside the beautiful San Diego Bay. The bay and the Pacific Coast are hosts to the coastal districts, from the Imperial Beach in the south to the Camp Pendleton in the north.

From south to north, in order, these are the coastal districts of San Diego - Imperial Beach, Coronado, Point La Loma, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside and Camp Pendleton.

Chula Vista is next to the Mexican border, and very near Tijuana, Mexico. Lemon Groove and La Mesa are located east and northeast of the city, respectively. Other districts could be reached by the route passing La Mesa and El Cajon on the way to the interstate road going to Tucson and Phoenix in the state of Arizona.

The east and northeast districts of San Diego County include Spring Valley, Santee, Escondido and San Marcos, to name a few.The Historical Society of San Diego named the following popular spots as historical landmarks in San Diego. These popular landmarks could be used as a reference when navigating any travel map or seeking directions to locate other buildings and addresses:

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at 3950 Conde Street is popular landmark. It is located between Congress Street and San Diego Avenue in Old Town, San Diego. Fort Stockton is sitting on a hilltop west of the Presidio Drive in the Presidio Park in Old Town. The San Diego Presidio Site is next to the parking lot across Presidio Drive from Serra Museum, Presidio Park in Old Town. If you want to get a direction when in Old Town, the Whaley House at 2482 San Diego Avenue maybe a good reference point.

Old Point Loma Lighthouse is located in the Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma is another landmark north of San Diego downtown.The US Naval Submarine Base in San Diego is a frequented by tourists who would want to experience the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier, now a museum and landmark at the San Diego Bay.

The Old Town San Diego State Historic Park’s marker is located at the west side of the plaza at 4016 Wallace Street is also a monumental landmark. The Old La Playa or Quarantine Station at the left side of Rosecrans Street and near the entrance of the Military Reserve in Point Loma is also a landmark in Pacific Coast, north of the city. Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at the Cabrillo Memorial Drive in Point Loma and the Montgomery Memorial at the northeast corner of Coronado Avenue and Beyer Boulevard are two other important monuments.
