Weather In New York

The weather of New York City is humid unlike the weather of European cities of Naples and Madrid that are situated approximately at the same latitude at which the City is located. It is due to the prevailing wind patterns in the area.

These patterns bring cool air from the core of the North American Continent. During the winter season, the weather in New York City remains warm as compared to that of the regions located in the inlands. The change occurs due to the coastal location of the city. However, it proves helpful in maintaining the temperature at moderate level which is usually 25-35 inches i.e. 63.5 to 88.9 cm every year.

The weather of New York City also constitutes frost free period. The length of this period is about 199 days on an average. It is often between seasonal freezes. However, beforehand statement about the Spring and Fall season in the City can not be made precisely because both the seasons are erratic in their natures. Here weather can very smoothly shift from hot and humid to cold and snowy.

The season of Summer brings a very warm and humid period with it. The temperature during the season reaches up to 90F i.e. 32C. Nevertheless, the temperature may rise higher for 18 to 25 days in total each summer season.     

There has been a tremendous change in the weather of New York City due to the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation. The Oscillation is a warming as well as cooling cycle that takes place in Atlantic. The frequency and sternness of hurricanes and coastal storms in the area do get influenced due to this oscillation. A number of scientists believe that this pattern may get altered because of constant global warming. 

The time of mid-September to mid-November is considered as the best time to visit New York City. Weather in the months of May and early June is also counted as favorable to enjoy a visit to the City. But, the point which needs to be to considered is that since these months are popular among those who desire to visit New York City, prices of hotel are usually soaring.

 The months of November and April experience long phases of wet weather in New York City. Snow falls occur usually between December to February. However, summer season is mostly avoided to visit to the city due to humidity and soupy heat of the city.
