Library in Cambridge
The Libraries in Cambridge have quite a history attached to them. It started in 1836 and was housed in one of the residential homes.
There were only a few bookcases lined with books but the little library had a 150 paying members. Then as time progressed this particular library became known as the “Preston Library “in 1871 and took up residence in the local fire station. A librarian was hired to oversee it and was paid a salary of $50. a year.In 1973 three libraries amalgamated to gether to form the “Cambridge Public Library“.
There are now four Libraries in Cambridge. There are found in various locations throughout the city which make it possible for all of the residents to take advantage of their services. They all work closely together to offer full exciting programs and events to their visitors. They are all well stocked and have a wonderful atmosphere.
With the complete range of reading material available, it’s unlikely that one wouldn’t find exactly what they are looking for. It is really good that the students here in Cambridge can take advantage of all the resource materials to be found in the Libraries of Cambridge. With the community support these Libraries are expected to keep growing and be an asset to the city.
Preston Library
From its 4 locations the Cambridge Libraries & Galleries lend books, magazines, audio cassettes, books on tape, compact discs videos and DVD's. Library volunteers provide visiting library services for homebound patrons. The organization also provides year-round programs and activities for children of all ages.

Hespeler Library
A major renovation of the Hespeler Library was completed in June 2007 increasing the size to 14,000 square feet. The historic Carnegie Library was encased in a modern glass structure that provides expanded children's facilities and larger study, book and computer areas.

Clemens Mill Library
The organization also provides year-round programs and activities for children of all ages. Cambridge Galleries provide a continuing program of monthly art exhibitions covering a wide range of mediums and concepts at the Queen's Square and Preston locations.
