Boston Travel Information

Boston has around one hundred universities and colleges, of which most of whom are world famous. Some of the names include Harvard University, MIT, Boston University, Emerson College and a lot more.
It is city with a very low crime rate, which is very unusual for a city of this big size. Although there are certain neighborhoods where tourists should be extra careful, such as Mattapan, Roxbury, Jamaica Plan, some parts of Dorchester and Charlestown. All these neighborhoods are not in the main tourists areas, but if you do want to stroll around the places, it is better to be more vigilant. It is also good to avoid all Public Parks during the night time, especially the Fenway Park.
Boston consists of several neighborhoods; therefore, it is at times confusing for tourists especially while sending letters or making a telephone call. Most of the neighborhoods use their own zip codes, but one zip code can also be used for another neighborhood. While making a call or using a telephone directory, you may not find the number of the person in the city of Boston, on the contrary, the number would be listed according to the neighborhood that person lives in. Boston also has confusing geographical references.
For instance, if you are looking for South Boston, it is not the same as the South End, because the South End is in actuality the west side of Boston.Driving inside the city of Boston is not an advisable thing especially for tourists. The roads in the city are not according to any grid, the roads are usually poorly marked, and for a new comer, it can be very tiring to go around the city finding places and looking for sign boards especially when you have come to enjoy the place as a tourist. Apart from being a bit confusing, for some it can be memorable too.
As finding places and neighborhoods can be fun too, but not for the serious type, who are more interested in knowing the city better and visiting the tourist destinations, therefore, it is better to use the subway system, which is extremely efficient and cheaper too.Boston’s downtown is a walking area. All the big tourist attractions are easily visited on foot from here. The climate in Boston is quite cold in winters and at times it gets quite windy too. The cities of Cambridge, Brookline, Somerville and Newton are not technically a part of the main Boston city, but a visit to Boston can not be complete unless you tour these cities as well.
