Sydney Wildlife World

Although it is always best to see wildlife in its native habitat – the actual wild, the new Sydney WildlifeWorld at Darling Harbour is well worth visiting. I went there at the end of my trip mainly because I hadn’t seen any koalas. WildlifeWorld is informative and interesting and from the koala exhibit, which is located on the roof of the building, you have a view of the city’s skyline – which made for some interesting-looking photographs with koalas in front of skyscrapers, weird.

The minus5 “story” can be traced back to the end of the 19th century, when intrepid New Zealand explorer and adventurer Buck Rockwell, set out on a daring one-man expedition to circumnavigate the North Pole. When his icebreaker became trapped in the Arctic pack ice, he was forced to endure the winter in a remote whaling village with only the local fisherwomen and copious amounts of vodka to warm the long Arctic nights.
